 ### Easy Chicken Shawarma Recipe


This easy chicken shawarma recipe is perfect for a delicious, homemade Middle Eastern-inspired meal. The recipe involves marinating the chicken with a blend of spices and yogurt, then cooking it to perfection. Serve it with pita bread, fresh veggies, and a tangy sauce for an authentic experience.


#### Ingredients:

**For the Chicken Marinade:**                                                  

- 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts

- 3 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt(curd)

- 3 tablespoons olive oil

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 4 cloves garlic-chopped

- 1 teaspoon ground cumin

- 1 teaspoon ground paprika/chilli powder

- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric

- 1 teaspoon ground coriander

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

- 1 teaspoon salt

- ½ teaspoon ground cardamom

- ½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional for extra spice)


**For the Sauce:**

- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt

- 2 tablespoons tahini

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice

- 2 cloves garlic- chopped

- Salt to taste


**For Serving:**                                                                       


- Pita bread or flatbread or chapathi

- Sliced cucumbers

- Sliced tomatoes

- Sliced red onions

- Chopped fresh parsley

- Pickles

- Hot sauce (optional)


#### Instructions:

1. **Marinate the Chicken:**

   - In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and all the spices.

   - Add the chicken thighs or breasts to the bowl and coat them well with the marinade.

   - Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight for best flavor.


2. **Cook the Chicken:**

   - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

   - Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly grease it.

   - Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on the baking sheet in a single layer.

   - Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly charred on the edges. Alternatively, you can grill the chicken on medium-high heat for about 6-8 minutes per side until cooked through.

   - Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice it into thin strips.


3. **Prepare the Sauce:**

   - In a small bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt until smooth and well combined.


4. **Assemble the Shawarma:**

   - Warm the pita bread or flatbread or chapathi

   - Spread a generous amount of the yogurt-tahini sauce on each piece of bread.

   - Add a portion of the sliced chicken on top of the sauce.

   - Top with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, parsley, pickles, and a drizzle of hot sauce if desired.

   - Fold the bread over the fillings to create a wrap or serve open-faced.


#### Tips:

- For an even more authentic flavor, try adding a touch of sumac to the marinade.

- Leftover chicken shawarma can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

- This recipe can easily be doubled to serve a larger crowd.
